Backyard Safety - Stay Safe - Have Fun - Eat Well

Backyard safety is something that is very important to us. The one thing we absolutely want is for everyone to have a fun time in their own backyard and staying safe goes a long way towards making that happen.

That is what this section of our site is dedicated to, everyone having fun in their own backyards. This particular section of our site deals with backyard safety and nothing else. One large area that we cover in detail is having safe food at your backyard barbeque. Along with that we discuss the safe operation of your BBQ or grill as well.

After all we wouldn't want to see anyone get sick with a food borne illness.

Don't let these critters ruin your party.

I have seen quite a lot over the years and sometimes I have seen food safety that leaves a great deal to be desired. I know that some folks are just playing with fire by the way they treat their food and I also know that armed With some basic working knowledge and some common sense, they can potentially eliminate a great deal of their risk.

Did you know that food left in the danger zone for too long can encourage the growth of bacteria that can cause you to get sick. We discuss this in detail in our free e-book.

Fun Fact: The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that 325,000 people are hospitalized with some form of food poisoning every year.

This number in itself is kind of scary so we thought we would address it in a somewhat limited detail since this is not a college course. We have a section on food safety tips for your backyard barbeque and within that section is a free e-book that you can download and keep.

Like I said before, I have been to many barbeques over the years and I have sometimes seen food handling that leaves a great deal to be desired.

There were times when I really didn't want to eat the food I was being served.

After seeing how the food was being handled my fear was potentially getting a food borne illness by the growth of bad pathogens and I really didn't want to go there.

My goal for this section is to give everyone that needs it or wants it, some basic working knowledge they can use to keep their guests safe, happy and well fed. So whether it is having safe food or BBQ safety in general this book covers both and will help you.

Fun Fact: The CDC estimates that 76,000,000 people get sick every year from some form of food poisoning

To be perfectly honest with you, I really have no idea how they could possibly know this for sure, but like I said earlier, judging by some of the things I have seen in some restaurants, picnics and family barbeques that I have been to over the years, it could almost be believable to me.

One important note; The USDA has revised their recommended cooking temperatures for pork

Just follow this link on pork cooking temperatures for more specific information.

Now having safe food is an important ingredient to having fun in your backyard, but it is not the only thing we will cover in this area of our site. We believe we can help you in other areas as well and as our site grows so will our various sections and free e-books for your personal use. Each one will deal with a different area of backyard safety.

For example I think pool safety is important along with playground safety. Many people have these large gym sets, but are they really keeping their kids safe? What can you do to help keep your kids safe while having fun at home?

We will try to help you with ideas and suggestions in these types of areas as well.

In addition to those areas discussed above there are other areas that people tend to ignore or possibly not know at all, such as proper bird care. How often should you clean a bird feeder? What is the best way to clean your bird feeder? Should you keep your bird bath clean and just what is the right way to clean a bird houses?

Don't forget to keep your fine feathered friends safe as well. Many people don't think of backyard safety in this way though.

There is no sense in working extra hard to attract beautiful birds to your backyard if you aren't going to take care of them and keep them safe. We address all of this in various pages of our backyard bird section however as we continue to develop this site we intend to have a free e-book covering the proper way to care for the many variety of birds that may reside in your backyard.

This will be a short book that will be an accumulation of all the various information from our bird section consolidated into an easy to read format for your convenience.

Everything you need to know about caring for your backyard birds in one convenient place.

Long-term, as our site grows, I am not quite sure what this section on backyard safety will end up looking like, but I do intend to cover a great deal of areas that I consider important to your backyard safety.

Just check back with us periodically to see what is new or even better yet, just sign up for our RSS feeder and we will automatically notify you when we make a change or have an addition to the site. That really is the easiest and most convenient way to go in the long run.

Also please let us know what you think of the book and if there is any way we can improve this section please do let us know.
