Ladder Golf. A Fun Game For People of All Ages to Play in Your Backyard

It seemed like every time we had a party we played ladder golf in someone's backyard.

I even remember our two year old grandson trying to play the game.

He never did get the concept down though. He would just grab a bolla and walk away with that and the ladder. A testament to his strength though, since we had the ladder fastened to the ground with small anchors.

I am thinking there might be some football in his future.

Ladder golf rules are easy to learn and the game is simple to set up and play. You can go from garage to playing in a matter of moments with very little effort at all.

It is a game that almost all age groups can play and have fun with so it is perfect for when you have friends and family over.

Playing the game

Set up your ladders and anchor them to the ground. They generally come with these. If not they are easy to make.

Set up your ladders about 15 feet apart. This is your toss line as well.

The game is played in rounds. One round is complete when both players have finished tossing all their bollas.

Each player gets 3 bollas to toss and you can use a toss of the coin to see who goes first. After that, the winner of each round goes first from then on.

The first player must toss all three of his bollas before the other player can toss his or hers.

You can toss your bollas any way you want as long as you only toss one at a time. They can even be bounced off of the ground.

It is perfectly acceptable to toss your bollas in a way that might knock someone else's off the ladder.

The bollas that are left hanging after all have been tossed are what counts for points.

Scoring points

Scoring is simple. The top rung is worth 3 points, the middle rung is 2 points and the bottom rung is worth 1 point.

If you can get all bollas on one rung, or one bolla on each rung you get one bonus point as well.

The game is played to exactly 21 points.

If you score more than you need at the end of the game, then none of the points for that round count.

In the event the game ends in a tie, then you play as many rounds as you need for an overtime until someone wins. In order to win, you must win by at least 2 points.

As you can see the game of ladder golf is easy to set up, easy to learn and fun to play. It really is a fun game for almost all ages to play.
